Noe, Johnson Lead R-MC Men's Basketball past Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Junior Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) scored a career-high 25 points and junior Jermaine Johnson (Akron, Ohio/St. Christopher) added a career-best 18 points as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team recorded an 85-66 ODAC victory at Randolph on Saturday afternoon.

Noe hit a three-pointer to start the game and the Yellow Jackets (15-6, 11-1 ODAC) would never trail. Johnson nailed a triple to give R-MC a 14-7 lead six minutes into the contest. The Wildcats (7-14, 4-8) used a 16-9 run to knot the score at 23-23 with 6:45 left in the first half. Senior Jamie Wilson (West Point, Va./West Point) hit a three-pointer to snap the deadlock. Senior Boris Ngundji (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) nailed a jumper and sophomore Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) buried a trey as the 8-0 run put the visitors up 31-23 with 4:30 left. Freshman Korey Turner (Midlothian, Va./Amelia Academy) made a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left to give the Yellow Jackets their first double-digit lead at 40-30. Randolph hit a late three-pointer to trail 40-33 at intermission. Noe put up 11 points in the first half, while Johnson made three treys for nine points.

As he did in the first half, Noe rang up a triple to start the scoring in the second stanza as R-MC took a 43-33 lead. The Wildcats used an 11-5 spurt to pull within four at 48-44 with 13 minutes remaining. The lead for the Yellow Jackets was still four 53-49 before Turner hit a jumper, Noe converted a three-point play and Johnson nailed another trey as the 8-0 run gave R-MC a 61-49 lead with just under nine minutes left. The margin would remain in double figures the rest of the contest. Turner sank a pair of free throws with 1:13 remaining to give the Yellow Jackets their largest lead at 83-62 before R-MC registered the 85-66 victory.

The Yellow Jackets put up their highest point total of the season. R-MC hit a dozen three-pointers, as Johnson hit four and Noe went 3 for 3 from behind the arc. Senior Michael Taylor (Apex, N.C./Grace Christian) had eight points, while Turner and Adams both chipped in seven. Johnson paced the victors with three assists and three steals.

R-MC held a 36-31 advantage on the boards. Noe pulled down seven rebounds and Adams grabbed six.

R-MC shot 52% from the floor (30 for 58), 50% on three-pointers (12 for 24) and 81% from the free throw line (13 for 16).

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 8 with a 7 pm ODAC home contest against Shenandoah in Crenshaw Gymnasium.
