Second Half Run Lifts Knights over Mighty Macs

ASTON, Pa. – The No. 17 Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Immaculata University 93-82 on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

 

Darian Barnes led the Knights with 23 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks. Carl Wallace added 19 points and 17 rebounds, 12 of which were offensive. DeShawn Lowman tallied 14 points and nine boards. Billy Cassidy added 13 points.

 

The teams remained close during the first part of the game. The Knights had two five-point leads, each coming off of three-pointers. With a 16-11 Neumann lead, the Mighty Macs scored five straight points to knot the score at 16. Immaculata continued its run, eventually building a 25-17 advantage. Neumann answered with a run of its own and tied the game at 28 with 7:12 on the clock. Each team again went on mini runs. A three-pointer by Cassidy with 4:28 left before halftime put the Knights in the lead, 35-33, this time for good. Over the four minutes before halftime, Neumann built up its lead and took a 50-43 lead into halftime.

 

Three minutes into the second half, Immaculata had chipped its way back to within one, 55-54. Midway through the half, and Neumann holding a 66-63 lead, the Knights went on a 15-5 run to take a 13 points advantage, 81-68, capped by a layup by Wallace. The Knights would hold a double-digit lead for the rest of regulation. Neumann's biggest lead came with 1:53 remaining on a tip-inn by Matt O'Keefe, 91-75.

 

Neumann (19-1, 13-0 CSAC) hits the road for the next two games, beginning at Centenary on Saturday. Action gets underway at 4:00 PM.
