HOLLAND, Mich. – Cody Stuive scored five points to cap Hope College's 11-2 run as the Flying Dutchmen pulled away for a 82-70 victory over Albion College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's basketball action.
Albion trailed 64-63 when Corey Wheeler knocked down a 3-point basket with 4:16 to play.
Hope answered with a 3-point basket by Mitchell O'Brien and a layup and free throw by Harrison Blackledge.
Aquavius Burks and Darius Branch provided the scoring as Albion ripped off a 12-0 run in building a double-digit lead with less than three minutes left in the first half. The Britons took a 40-29 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Blackledge and Chad Carlson knocked down 3-point shots and Dante Hawkins produced a layup on consecutive possessions as Albion's lead melted to one, 53-52, midway through the second half.
Neither team led by more than three until Hope's decisive run down the stretch.
Burks led Albion with 19 points. Wheeler contributed 18 points and nine rebounds. Branch finished with 10 points.
Hope's Blackledge led all players with 29 points. Hawkins and O'Brien (13 apiece) and Carlson joined him in double figures.
Albion will play its next two games at home, starting with an 8 o'clock Wednesday tilt with Calvin College.
