Beavers End First Half With 24-1 Run to Move to 8-0 in the NEWMAC

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Bradley Jacks (Fort Washington, Md.) scored a game-high 16 points and senior Sam Bohmiller (Franklin, Mass.) added 15 as top-ranked Babson College defeated visiting Emerson College, 78-42, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Staake Gymnasium.

With its ninth straight win, Babson is now 18-1 overall and 8-0 in conference play, while Emerson dips to 4-15 overall and 0-8 in the NEWMAC with its 10th straight loss.

Jacks was 7-of-11 from the floor and pulled down seven rebounds in just 22 minutes, while Bohmiller contributed three rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Beavers. Senior Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) added eight points, seven boards and a game-high four assists in the win.

Sophomore Geoffrey Gray (Newton, Mass.) led the Lions with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Leading 18-16 at the midway point of the first half, the Green and White used a 24-1 run to seize control of the game. Jacks and senior Charlie Rice (Barnstable, Mass.) combined to score 15 points, Bohmiller chipped in with five points and the Beavers held Emerson without a field goal for more than 10 minutes to build a 42-17 advantage at the break.

The Lions knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the first four minutes of the second half to pull within 21, but Flannery converted a three-point play and Jacks and senior Matthew Droney (Canton, Mass.) combined for 10 straight points to help Babson extend its lead to 61-31 with 11:53 to play. Senior David Stauffer (York, Pa.) made it 63-33 with a two-hand dunk, Rice knocked down a pair of free throws and Bohmiller followed another free throw by Stauffer with a layup to make it 68-33 with 8:41 remaining.

The Beavers shot 46.6 percent, outscored Emerson 32-10 in the paint and finished with a 41-24 edge on the glass.

The Lions shot a season-low 24 percent from the floor and made just 12 field goals, its fewest of the season.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday as Babson travels to Wheaton at 7 p.m., while Emerson hosts WPI at 5:30 p.m.

GAME NOTES
•    The Beavers are now 22-2 all-time against Emerson and have won 10 straight in the series.
•    Babson's senior class recorded its 90th win on Saturday, matching the Class of 2004 for the most wins in program history.
•    The Beavers are 6-0 this season and have now won 30 consecutive Saturday contests going back to 2014.
•    The 42 points allowed on Saturday are the fewest given up by Babson since holding Framingham State to 41 in the opening game of the 2015-16 campaign.
