But the Occidental men's basketball team couldn't hang on to a double-digit lead, falling to Redlands 77-74 at Rush Gymnasium on Thursday.
Oxy led 45-37 at halftime and was up 65-57 with 6 minutes to go before the Bulldogs got hot.
Jesse Wims hit a pair of back-to-back three pointers, then Joey Sponheim and Trevor Baker followed them up with layups, putting the Bulldogs on top.
Despite falling behind by five points with 16 seconds left, Oxy's Jay Miller had a 28-footer at the buzzer to tie that rimmed out.
Johnson cut the lead to two points with a corner three and the Bulldogs missed one of two free throws with 3 seconds left.
DeWitz was outstanding in the first half from the field, going 6 for 7 on catch and face jump shots and drives to the basket.
Zach Baines scored eight points for Oxy and had three rebounds, three steals and three assists. Miller scored 11 points and had five assists.
Wimms led four Bulldogs in double figures with 15 points, Trevor Baker scored 12, and Blake O'Brien and Hass Berry each added 10.
Season Impact: Oxy falls to 9-8 overall and 1-7 in SCIAC play.
Redlands improves to 6-11 and 2-6.
