The University of Scranton men's basketball team ran into the type of opponent that every basketball team fears – one that can't miss from 3-point range. Moravian was that team on Wednesday night in the Long Center, making 12 of 16 3-point attempts while handing the Royals a 78-64 defeat.

Scranton (11-5, 3-2 Landmark) held a 38-32 lead at halftime, but Moravian (10-6, 3-2 Landmark) made nine of 11 from beyond the arc in the second half to outscore the Royals 46-26 in the second half.

Senior center John Vitkus (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) led Scranton with his eighth double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds along with three steals. Junior forward Drew Schankweiler (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) finished with 11 points and six rebounds, and junior guard Kevin Doolan (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) had 10 points.

The Royals shot 53.8 percent (14-for-26) in the first half, including 3-for-5 from 3-point range, to take that six-point lead into the break. But Moravian used an early 10-2 run in the second half to take the lead, then put the game away with a 12-2 run to take a 66-53 lead with five minutes to play.

Seven different players hit at least one 3-pointer for the Greyhounds, who shot 25-for-51 (49 percent) from the field and 16-for-21 (76.2 percent) from the free throw line. They also held a 36-27 edge in rebounding.

Scranton finished the night 24-for-54 (44.4 percent) from the field, including 3-for-12 from 3-point range. The Royals made 13 of 21 (61.9 percent) from the free throw line and held a 42-22 edge in points in the paint. But it wasn't enough to overcome the marksmanship of Moravian.

The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 21, when they host Catholic in a Landmark Conference game in the Long Center at 4 p.m.
