TOWSON, MD – The Goucher men's basketball team (4-12, LC 1-4) lost to Catholic University 81-61 at home Wednesday evening despite three players scoring in double-digits.
Junior Elliott Wiley led the squad with 14 points and six rebounds while senior Chris Outing and freshman Keon Butler scored 13 points and collected five rebounds, each. Wiley, Outing and Butler, along with senior Tre Galloway III, each notched three assists in the game.
Freshman Davon Davis tied a career-high with five points and set a new standard in assists (2) against the Cardinals.
The Cardinals maintained a balanced attack as all five starters scored in double-digits. Senior Louis Khouri and freshman Riley Hayes paced Catholic with 17 points each. Khouri also recorded seven rebounds – a team-high.
How It Happened:
- The Cardinals quickly jumped out to 16-5 lead, taking advantage of turnovers by the Gophers.
- Goucher turned the ball over 12 times in the first half and fell behind 43-30 at the break.
- The Gophers shot 54.2% (13-of-24) in the first period while holding Catholic to 50.0% (16-of-32) shooting.
- Butler scored 12 of his 13 points in the first half, shooting 5-of-7 from the field.
- The Cardinals maintained distance over the Gophers, shooting 54.2% (13-of-24) in the second half, and carried that lead into an 81-61 victory.
- Goucher outshot the Cardinals 52.0% (26-of-52) from the field over the course of the game compared to Catholic's 51.8% (29-of-56) shooting.
- Catholic limited their turnovers (8) while causing turnovers in the Gophers ranks (24).
Coach's Thoughts:
"I thought we really hurt ourselves with 23 turnovers, which Catholic converted into 21 points. On top of that our defensive effort was poor and it is very hard to defend turnovers."

The Gophers travel to Elizabethtown on Saturday to take on the Blue Jays at 4PM. Goucher is currently on a three-game win streak in games against Elizabethtown, beating them 78-70 in their last matchup. The Gophers are 3-1 in the all-time series against the Blue Jays.
