Men Route Bridgewater 94-62 in Road ODAC Contest

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College men's basketball team won its fourth-straight game with a 94-62 route at Bridgewater College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Wednesday.

The Marlins put the game out of reach early, jumping out to an 11-0 lead just over three minutes into the game.

Bridgewater won the opening tip-off, but turned it over, resulting in a Khory Moore layup. Another turnover the next time saw Moore collect another layup for the 4-0 edge.

Andre Banks converted on a pair of free throws after he was fouled on a three-point attempt. The Marlins rounded out the early run with a three-pointer by Moore and a Banks jumper.

Virginia Wesleyan continued to run away from Bridgewater, leading 17-4 with 14:40 left in the first half. Moore was doing everything in the box score, finishing off his own rare miss for 12 early points.

The Marlins led 30-9 on a Banks three with 9:50 to play before Bridgewater reached double-figures on a pair of Kevin Saylor free throws.

Bridgewater trailed 45-23 with 2:35 to play until intermission when the Marlins stormed ahead for their largest lead of the half. Banks connected on a pair of threes while Josh Williams added another for a 31-point, 54-23 lead.

The Marlins carried a 29-point lead into halftime largely due to a 24-0 lead in points off turnovers. VWC also had a 20-2 edge in bench points in the first half, and committed just three turnovers compared to 24 by Bridgewater.

Virginia Wesleyan continued to outscore Bridgewater in the second half, shooting 50% (16-32) from the field in the final 20 minutes.

Bryce Boggs led Bridgewater (5-11/2-5) with 22 points, three rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Saylor finished with 13 points while Efe Balfour contributed 10.

Moore finished with 22 points in just 17 minutes of action. With the effort, Moore moved into third place on the all-time Virginia Wesleyan scoring list (1,779), passing TonTon Balenga '08 (1,765).

Banks posted a career-high 19 points on five made three-pointers. Lamont Steward also set a career high in points (15) as did Percy Burt in rebounds (5).

Virginia Wesleyan (12-4/5-2) travels to Shenandoah University (6-9/2-4) Saturday for a 3 p.m. ODAC start.
