New Paltz Men’s Basketball Defeated by Oswego 81-52

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Senior forward Andrew Seniuk (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) tallied his second double-double of the season but the men's basketball team at the State University of New York at New Paltz dropped an 81-52 SUNYAC decision to visiting SUNY Oswego on Tuesday night in the Hawk Center.

Seniuk notched 11 points and 10 boards for the Hawks (1-13, 0-8 SUNYAC) while freshman center Nick Arthur (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) registered 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists.

Sophomore guard Cory Garcia (Highland, N.Y./Highland) recorded eight points, six assists, three steals and two boards in the tough conference loss.

For the Lakers (12-4, 8-1 SUNYAC), junior Jamir Ferebee scored a game-high 19 points behind 5-of-6 shooting from three-point range. Both sophomore Tyler Pierre and senior Pat Caruso recorded 10 points apiece while senior Mykelle Krecko notched five blocks defensively.

New Paltz found themselves trailing at halftime 40-20 as the Lakers went on a 29-10 run to close out the first half. The second half was much of the same story as New Paltz trailed by as many as 31 points.

Both teams scored 11 points off turnovers but the Hawks were plagued by shooting just 18.2 percent from long distance (2-of-11).

The Hawks will hit the road for the next four contests, starting this weekend, Jan. 20-21, as they take on SUNY Fredonia and Buffalo State for the first time this season.
