MILTON, Mass. -- The University of New England trailed by four early in the 2nd period, but used an 18-6 run to turn the tables and secure a 61-50 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball win over Curry College on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 14) at Katz Gymnasium.

Ryan Matthews led the Nor'easters (5-10, 3-5 CCC) with a career-high 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting that included four treys. Drew Coveney supported with 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. Gavin Dibble and Daron Hoges, Jr. combined for 15 points (8 and 7) and 14 rebounds (6 and 8), and Drew Patno corralled a team-best nine boards.

The Colonels (1-14, 0-8 CCC) received 20 points and nine rebounds out of James Pina. Luke Schreiner and Jared Johnson each added seven points; Johnson also pulled in nine rebounds.

Neither side shot the ball particularly well in the contest, with UNE out-converting the hosts by 34 percent to 27 percent. However, the Nor'easters did execute at a 48 percent clip after intermission.

Matthews and Coveney accounted for 28 of Big Blue's 41 points following halftime, as the Nor'easters reversed their largest deficit of the game (28-24) to gain a 42-38 advantage with 10:29 remaining.

Curry closed the gap to just two (48-46) at the 3:51 mark, but Matthews connected from long distance three times in the next five UNE trips, leaving the visitors with a 57-50 lead inside the last 50 seconds.

The Nor'easters head to Eastern Nazarene College (5-3 CCC) on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
