MARIETTA, Ohio — Anthony Wallace scored a career-high 24 points to lead No. 23 Marietta College to a 94-72 win over Heidelberg University Saturday (Jan. 14) afternoon in Ban Johnson Arena. The Pioneers improve to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Heidelberg (6-9 overall, 2-6 OAC), coached by former Pioneer assistant Andy Bucheit, traded leads with Marietta in the early going. A three-pointer from Wallace at the 15:35 mark put the Pioneers in front for good.

Wallace drained another triple to cap an 8-0 Marietta run and extended the lead to 31-19 with 7:17 left in the first half. The Pioneers shot 58% in the first half and took a 46-30 advantage into halftime.

The Student Princes turned up the pressure in the second half with an aggressive full court press but got into early foul trouble. Marietta was in the bonus less than four minutes into the half hindering any hopes Heidelberg had for a comeback.

Marietta maintained its double digit lead the entire second half and pushed the margin as high as 28 points, 89-61, on a pair of RaNeal Ewing free throws with 5:05 left on the clock.

Wallace led four Pioneers in double figures. A.J. Edwards tallied 22 markers and, along with Kyle Dixon, had a game-high seven rebounds. Keith Richardson chipped in with 14 points. Ewing, playing in his first game in over a year, added 11 points.

Kiere Bennie paced the Student Princes with 16 points and six rebounds. Chris Moxley finished with 14 points, while DeAvery Collins added 13 points.

The Pioneers dominated the paint at both ends of the floor outscoring Heidelberg 46-26 inside and winning the rebounding battle, 46-40. Marietta forced 17 HU turnovers and committed 13.

For the game, Marietta shot 53.1% (34-of-64) from the floor, 35.0% (7-of-20) from three-point range and 67.9% (19-of-28) at the free throw line. Heidelberg was 26-of-72 (36.1%) from the floor, 11-of-32 (34.4%) behind the arc and 9-of-15 (60.0%) at the charity stripe.

Marietta plays at Capital University on Wednesday (Jan. 18) to finish the first half of the OAC schedule. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
