BUFFALO, N.Y. – In State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, The College at Brockport men's basketball team used a balanced team effort to bypass Buffalo State, 69-68

The Golden Eagles improve to 10-3 on the year and 5-1 in league play while the Bengals fall to 9-4 on the season and have a 3-4 mark in the SUNYAC.

After grabbing the initial lead, the Green and Gold didn't see a Brockport advantage till the 14:42 mark, when a David Clark dunk lifted them 8-7. Buff State grabbed the lead again, but back-to-back Cordell Torres triple's gave the Golden Eagles a 20-14 lift and a Clifton Lyerly layup pushed Brockport further ahead at 22-14 with 7:15 to play.

Head coach Greg Dunne's offensive unit went to work to close the half, piecing together 9-2 run, with three straight scores from Hamed Shamseldin and a trey from Clark to take a 34-23 lead into the break.

At the half the Golden Eagles were led by Torres and Shamseldin, who netted eight points apiece. Clark and Devonn Gavin both turned in five points. Brockport shot a hot 55.6 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three-point range at the midway point, while holding the Bengals to just 26.5 percent.

The Golden Eagles kept a comfortable distance from their counterparts through the majority of the second half, seeing their largest lead of 13 points after a Torres three made the count 37-24. With just over eight minutes remaining, Brockport still held on to a double-digit lead, but a charging Bengal squad slowly erased the Green and Gold advantage.

After Buff State pulled within three, a Shamseldin triple as the shot clock expired gave Brockport a 63-57 edge with 3:27 remaining in regulation. The Bengals were able to knot the contest at the 2:19 mark, but a Marcus Blythers layup and a pair of free throws from Lyerly built the Brockport lead to 67-63 in the final minute of play.

A Devonn Gavin fast break layup would be the Green and Gold's final score, but a Bengal three and last second layuo to close the contest would make the final count, 69-68 in favor of Brockport.

Shamseldin finished the night leading the Golden Eagles offense, with 19 points, six rebounds and six assists. Lyerly and Torres each finished in double figures, with 13 and 11 points respectively, while Lyerly also added eight rebounds with Torres scooping up four.

The Green and Gold finished with a 42.4 field goal percentage, and a 46.2 percent effort from three-point range. Brockport edged their counterparts in the paint, with a margin of 34-28 and outrebounded the Bengals 43-40.

The Golden Eagles will wrap up their road streak on Jan. 13 when they take on Fredonia in SUNYAC play.
