Williams nets a career-high 35 points as Sewanee hammers Oglethorpe, 84-70

ATLANTA (Jan. 8, 2017) – Behind a career-high 35 points from senior Jorden Williams, the Sewanee men's basketball team hammered Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Oglethorpe, 84-70, Sunday, inside Dorough Field House.

Williams was outstanding finishing 13-for-19, which included a 7-for-12 effort from beyond the three-point line. Along with Williams, Brody Stone finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and seven assists while Clay Born pitched in 10 points.

As a team, Sewanee made 59.3 percent of its shots, which included 50 percent of the Tigers' attempts outside the three-point line.

With OU leading 9-5 after a Tom Inungu layup, Sewanee answered back with a three by Williams and a traditional three-point play from Stone. Oglethorpe took its largest lead of the game with 11:17 left in the first half after Taylor Bourdage hit a three.

From there, Sewanee answered with another three by Williams, which sparked an 11-3 run. After a layup from Adrian Thomas, Sewanee never trailed again. The Tigers closed the opening 20 minutes on a 14-5 run.

In the second half, Sewanee made 61.5 percent of its shots. That helped the purple and gold build their largest lead, 19, with 8:21 to play. The Tigers never looked back from there.

Along with the strong offensive performance outside, Sewanee finished with 32 points in the paint.

Chris Lawerence led OU in scoring with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting.

Now 2-1 in league play, Sewanee returns to action with an 8:00 p.m. contest against Hendrix, Friday.
