Second Half Run Leads Knights over Highlanders

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The No. 20 Neumann University men's basketball team used a strong second half to defeat Cairn University 84-71 on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Tyaire Hudson and DeShawn Lowman each netted 17 points in the win. Carl Wallace scored 16 points, grabbed nine rebounds and handed out five assists. Darian Barnes tallied 13 points, nine points and six assists.

Five minutes into the game, the Knights took a 9-7 score and netter the next seven points for a 16-7 lead. The play went back and forth and with 8:20 left until halftime, Neumann held a 28-22 advantage. Neither team would score until the Highlanders tipped in a basket with 5:43 on the clock. Cairn worked its way to within one, 30-29, with 3:32 remaining. Neumann took a 37-35 lead into the break.

With the teams tied at 41 early in the second half, Neumann started to make its move. The Knights went on an 11-2 run over the next four minutes for a 52-43 game. A few minutes later, Billy Cassidy (jr. Primos, Pa. / Friends Central) hit a three-pointer to get the Knights' lead to double-digits. Neumann's biggest lead of the game came with 4:25 left, 76-59, as Hudson connected on a layup. Free throws down the stretch helped the Knights remain unbeaten.

Neumann (12-0, 6-0 CSAC) will head to Rutgers-Camden on Monday evening for the final non-conference game of the regular season. Tip-off is at 7:00 PM.
