ASTON, Pa. – The No. 23 Neumann University men's basketball team wrapped up 2016 action with an 89-66 win over the University of Scranton on Friday afternoon.
Tyaire Hudson and DeShawn Lowman each netted 20 points to lead the Knights. Billy Cassidy hit five shots from downtown for 15 points. Carl Wallace netted 13 points. Darian Barnes tallied a double-double with 14 rebounds and 12 points.
Neumann out-rebounded Scranton 45-24 in the game. The Knights shot 53% from the field and 52% from beyond the arc.
The Knights never trailed in the game. Hudson opened the scoring with a jumper as Neumann scored 10 of the first 12 points over the first four minutes. While holding a 19-13 lead with 7:30 left in the first half, the Knights went on a 19-4 run for a 38-17 score. The Royals went on a mini-run, 9-2, to end the half, but the Knights held a 40-26 advantage at the break.
During the first part of the second half, the Knights built their lead to over 20 points, holding a 24 point lead a few times. With a 62-38 score, the Royals went on a 14-4 run. The closest Scranton would get during the rest of regulation was 14 points. Neumann built its lead into 20+ points down the stretch and would led by as many as 25 in the final minutes.
Neumann (9-0) starts a stretch of three straight conference games on Tuesday when it will host Marywood. Action gets underway at 8:00 PM.
