William Paterson Men’s Basketball Drops 92-70 Decision to St. Mary’s (Md.)

LEXINGTON, VA. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (4-7) dropped a 92-70 decision to St. Mary's, Md. (7-3) in the first round of the Washington & Lee Tournament Dec. 29.

 

The Seahawks never trailed, opening up a 43-31 halftime lead behind 53.1 (17-32) percent shooting and a 5-for-10 (.500) effort from beyond the arc. An 11-0 run early in the second period pushed the advantage to 56-34 with 15:32 to play.

 

Senior guard Joseph Taylor (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson) posted 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Pioneers. Senior guard Turell McClendon (Newark, N.J./Piscataway Tech) and sophomore guard Anthony Uribe (Hackensack, N.J./Bergen Catholic) each scored eight points, and senior forward Craig Tomkins (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) added six tallies and six boards.

 

Junior guard Delaszo Smith and freshman guard Tre Mouton led St. Mary's with 17 points apiece. Junior guard Lavonte Sanders chipped in 10 tallies and nine rebounds.

 

William Paterson will face Eastern in the consolation game Friday, Dec. 30, at 2:00 p.m.
