Late Rally Leads FSC Past CCNY

Farmingdale State - 77, CCNY - 71


Old Westbury, N.Y. - Trailing 71-70 with 40 seconds remaining, Farmingdale State closed the game with seven unanswered points to cap off the 77-71 comeback victory over CCNY in a non-conference game at Old Westbury this evening. With the win, the FSC men's basketball team improved to 4-3 on the season.

With 9:20 left to play and the Rams down 53-50, the Beavers (3-6) used a 7-0 run to take a 10-point advantage, 60-50. FSC answered with a quick 6-2 run closed out by a pair of Ali Mableton (Brentwood, N.Y.) layups to cut the deficit to 62-56 with less than five minutes remaining.

Trailing 67-60, Farmingdale State used two free-throws from both Mableton and sophomore guard Ryan Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y.) to close within three, 67-64. After a steal and score by Kennedy pulled the Rams within one, CCNY's David Solano (Westchester, N.Y.) followed with a pair of free-throws to bring the Beavers lead back to three, 69-66, with 2:21 left on the clock.

The Rams tallied scores from Mableton and sophomore forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) to take a 70-69 advantage. Solano converted a layup on CCNY's next possession but FSC closed the game with seven straight points (5-of-6 from the free-throw line) to earn the 77-71 comeback win.

Senior forward Weldon Irvine* (Queens, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting and a game-high 17 rebounds, while junior guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) added a team-high 18 points. Mableton tallied 14 points, three assists and three steals and both Riefenstahl and sophomore guard Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) pitched in with 10 points.

The Beavers were led by Solano's game-high 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 4-for-9 from behind the arc.

Farmingdale State next will host Ramapo (at Old Westbury) on Thursday, December 15th at 7:30 p.m.
