Thiel wins wild one in double overtime over Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team outlasted the Geneva Golden Tornadoes on Saturday to earn at 79-76 victory in double overtime in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest.

Thiel forced overtime when Clandell Cetoute caught Nyric Gosley's full-court heave at the free-throw line and drained the turnaround jumper with .5 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 62.
Geneva took the 73-70 advantage after a Chaese Vaudrin layup with six seconds left in the first overtime period. With time expiring, Tyreik Burton buried a double-clutch three-pointer from half court to tie the game at 73 and force another overtime.

Thiel got out to a quick start in the second overtime and held off Geneva to secure the road conference win.

Cetoute and Josh Lumbus paced the Tomcats with double-doubles in the win. Lumbus tallied 19 points and 11 rebounds while Cetoute scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds off the bench.

Gosley scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds from the guard position. Burton and Mert Ozkaynak each recorded nine points for the Tomcats.

Jimmy Leichliter had 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden Tornadoes.

The Tomcats outshot the Golden Tornadoes 37.8 percent (31-82) to 29.7 percent (22-74) from the field. The Tomcats also shot a season-best 82.7 percent (14-17) from the free-throw line.

The Tomcats (6-2, 2-2 PAC) will be back in action after Christmas when they take on Division II Ashland University Eagles. The game is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. from Ashland, Ohio.
