Montclair St. Puts Five in Double Figures in 92-78 Win at Rowan

Glassboro, NJ – Senior Brandon Channer scored 23 points leading five players in double figures as Montclair State posted its second consecutive win with a 92-78 victory over Rowan University on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Rahsaan Johnson registered his second straight double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds as the Red Hawks squared their record at 4-4 overall, 3-2 in the NJAC with the win.

MSU found itself in a 22-11 deficit in the first nine minutes of the game, but scored the next 14 points to take the lead. Daniel Ramis drained two three's, the second making the score 22-19 with 9:06 to play. Justin Porter added a layup and two free throws from Channer got Montclair the lead at 23-21 less than a minute later. Johnson capped the run with a short jumper.

Rowan would retake the lead at 28-27 but the Red Hawks busted out on a 12-point run to go back in front. Channer connected on a pair of three-pointers and two foul shots by Jordan Roberson with 3:25 left allowed Montclair to take a 39-28 lead. Montclair State held a 42-32 advantage at the break.

In the second half, Rowan trimmed the lead to 52-49 on a free throw from Josh Borrelli with 14 minutes on the clock. The Red Hawks countered with the next 10 points, the last a layup by Channer that restored the lead to 62-49 with 12:31 remaining.  The lead would not dip below double digits the rest of the way.

Ramis finished with 17 points, including five three-pointers and added four assists while Justin Porter and Jovanni Chatham each had 15 points. Chatham collected five assists while Porter grabbed seven boards along with four steals. Roberson chipped in with 10 rebounds and six points.

Montclair State is now off until Monday, December 19 when it faces University of Scranton at 4:00 pm in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.
