POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Maritime basketball team picked up its second win of the season on Tuesday evening, as the team defeated the Vassar Brewers by the score of 92-84.

It was a career night for several Privateers as senior Tim Hoch (Coventry, R.I./Fishers Island (N.Y.)) registered a career-high 18 points, breaking his previous best of 16 points, done twice as a junior. Junior Tim McQuail(Middle Village, N.Y./Cathedral Prep) also set a personal high in points as he collected 13 points in a career-high 32 minutes on the night.

Junior Isaiah Hayes (Jamaica, N.Y./Queens Teaching) had eight blocks in the win, which set the new standard for blocks in a single game. Hayes held the previous mark of seven blocks, which he set back in his first season with the team on January 22 vs. St. Joseph's (LI). Hayes also added 16 points and had seven rebounds, while falling just shy of a triple-double.

Junior John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) had a double-double with 24 points, while collecting a career-high 14 assists, four more than his previous career-high of 10 assists last season versus Yeshiva. His 14 assists also set a single-game record for the Privateers, as the previous mark was 13 set by Sean Corley '15 during the team's conference matchup with Mount St. Mary in January of that season.

Junior Patrick MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) chimed in with 14 points, and was tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven on the game.

In reserve, freshman Brendan McGovern (Seaford, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) had seven points including a pair of three-point baskets from beyond the arc. Senior Liam Ryan (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols) contributed with a pair of rebounds.

The recent series between the two sides have seen evenly matched battles, and Tuesday evening was no different in the early-going as the teams were even at five apiece just two minutes into the game. The Brewers scored the next seven points, but Maritime chipped back as MacDonald convered on a three-point play to make the score 12-8.

After a Liccese layup trimmed the lead to two, the Brewers answered back with a jumper. Hoch then knocked down his first of five three-pointers on the night to make it a one-point deficit. McQuail followed on the next possession with a three-ball to put Maritime ahead at 16-14.

The Privateers continued to hold on to at least a one-point lead, and led by as many as eight. MacDonald gave the Privateers their eight-point lead with another three-point play with 1:43 to go in the half to make the score 39-38 in favor of the Privateers.

The lead was sliced to a basket with 46 seconds left in the half, but Liccese knocked down a buzzer-beating three pointer from the top of the arc to send Maritime into the locker room ahead by a 42-37 score.

In the second half, Hoch drained another three followed by a layup from Hayes as Maritime built up a 10-point lead again with 18:52 left in regulation. The Brewers trimmed the lead to five on several occasions but the Privateers continued to connect on key baskets including another three by Hoch as Maritime had a 69-56 lead with 7:12 to go.

Vassar refused to go down without a fight, but the Privateers were able to respond as MacDonald and McQuail sank clutch shots in the closing minutes. The final nail came as Hoch dropped yet another three-pointer to put Maritime ahead by its largest lead of the night at 15 with just 101 seconds left in the contest.

The Brewers were only able to get the lead back down to six on two occasions in the closing seconds, but Liccese iced the game with six straight from the charity stripe to give Maritime the victory.

Maritime (2-2) will return home to Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon after three games on the road. The Privateers will welcome in the Mitchell Mariners for a 2 p.m. tip on November 27.

Vassar (3-1) will look to rebound off of its first loss of the season and will take on Elmira in the opening round of the Rochester Tournament, hosted by the Yellowjackets in Rochester, N.Y. on Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
