Utica, NY –Senior BRANDON CHANNER and junior RAHSAAN JOHNSON each scored 12 points as Montclair State overcame a six-point halftime deficit and picked its second straight win in a 67-58 victory over Utica College on Sunday.
JOVANNI CHATHAM added nine points and 10 rebounds as the Red Hawks squared their record at 2-2. JARRETT BOGUS chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.
MSU trailed 39-33 at the break and were behind 50-45 with 11:50 to play when it embarked on a 12-3 run over the next seven minute to take the lead for good. Bogus started it off with a layup and Channer's three-point play knotted the game up at 50-50 with 10 minutes to go.
Bogus made one free throw putting the Red Hawks on top and a layup from Johnson with 7:34 remaining gave Montclair State a 53-50 advantage. Uitca stopped the run with a free throw however Chatham drained a jumper allowing Montclair to take a 55-51 lead.
The teams traded free throws over the next few minutes leaving Montclair State with a three-point lead. Bogus scored on a layup with 2:35 left making the score 59-54. Johnson followed with back-to-back layups, the last with 1:06 to go putting the Red Hawks up 63-54.
DANIEL RAMIS finished with eight points while EDDIE EMEDOH contributed six points and nine rebounds.
Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, November 30 hosting Ramapo College at the Panzer Athletic Center. The contest, the second-half of an NJAC doubleheader is slated for an 8:00 pm start.
