BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) finished with 28 points and seven rebounds and junior Nick Comenale (New York Mills, N.Y.) scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half to help third-ranked Babson College defeat visiting Bowdoin College, 78-74, in non-conference men's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at Staake Gymnasium.

With its 12th straight victory at home, Babson is now 6-0 on the year, while Bowdoin falls to 2-2.

Flannery, who became the first player in program history to surpass 2,000 points in the win, was 11-of-24 from the field and also dished out three assists. Comenale added seven rebounds and three dimes, while junior Bradley Jacks (Fort Washington, Md.) contributed 11 points and six boards for the Beavers. Senior Isaiah Nelsen (North Andover, Mass.) tied for game-high honors with 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Jack Simonds (Falmouth, Maine) scored 28 points on 10-of-21 shooting, while junior Liam Farley (Chicago, Ill.) finished with 15 points to lead the Polar Bears.

Simonds and Farley combined to score 23 of the first 25 points for Bowdoin, which led throughout the first half and took its biggest advantage of the game at 31-23 with 7:15 to go in the opening stanza. The Polar Bears matched their biggest lead at 37-29 on a pull-up jumper in the paint by sophomore Tim Ahn (La Mirada, Calif.), but back-to-back triples by Comenale and Flannery pulled the Beavers back within 39-35 with 2:38 remaining in the period. Flannery followed with two free throws in the closing seconds to cut the Bowdoin lead to 40-39 going into the locker room.

Comenale scored seven consecutive points in the opening 1:11 of the second half to give the Green and White a 46-40 advantage. The Beavers matched their biggest lead of the game on three occasions, the last coming on a triple by Flannery to make it 61-55 with 10:29 to play in the contest.

Bowdoin followed with eight straight points to go back in front 63-61 on a three-pointer by sophomore Jack Bors (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) with 6:28 to go. Another trifecta by Comenale gave the Beavers a one-point edge on the following possession, but Simonds followed with five straight points to tie the game at 68-68 with 4:17 left.

Comenale drilled his fourth three-pointer of the afternoon to put Babson ahead for good 71-68 with 3:47 left and Flannery buried a triple to make it 76-72 with 1:33 to go. Farley knocked down two free throws with 24 seconds remaining to cut the Polar Bears' deficit to two, but his three-pointer from the left wing went in-and-out with nine seconds left. Jacks missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with six seconds to play, but Flannery and Nelsen tapped the rebound back out to Comenale, who drained a pair from the charity stripe for the final margin.

The Green and White shot 47.3 percent (30-of-63) for the game and made seven of its nine three-point field goals in the second half. The Beavers also outscored Bowdoin 38-12 in the paint and finished with a 42-33 edge on the glass.

Babson returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Bates at 7 p.m., while the Polar Bears take on Southern Maine in their home opener on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

•    The Beavers are now 17-21 all-time against Bowdoin with the teams having split their last four meetings.
•    Flannery, who reached double figures in scoring for the 44th consecutive game, is now just 29 points shy of former women's star Nicki Wurdeman's '12 school record of 2,042 points.
•    Babson committed a season-low eight turnovers in the win and made at least 30 field goals for the fifth time in six games.
•    The Beavers are now 17-1 over the last two years when making at least seven three-point field goals.
