The Hope College men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season with a 95-78 defeat to Cornerstone University on Saturday in the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic. It was a matchup of nationally ranked teams.

Senior forward Harrison Blackledge of Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS) and junior guard Dante Hawkins of Holland, Michigan (Holland) both were selected to the all-tournament team.

Blackledge scored a team-high 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the foul line. He also totaled seven rebounds and four assists.

Hawkins contributed 18 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Flying Dutchmen, ranked No. 22 in the D3Hoops.com preseason poll.

Senior guard Chad Carlson of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford) chipped in 17 points, while senior forward Cody Stuive of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) added 12 points.

Cornerstone, ranked eighth in NAIA Division II, broke open a close game and took a 45-37 halftime lead with a 9-2 run over the final two minutes of the first half.

Junior forward Kyle Steigenga earned Tournament MVP honors after tying a tournament record with 32 points. He tied the tournament-record for individual field-goal percentage by making all 10 of his shots. He also went 11-of-14 from the foul line.

Senior forward Cory Cox chipped in 12 points and made the all-tournament team. Cornerstone (8-1) shot a tournament-record 67.3 percent from the field.

Hope returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 29 with a 7 p.m. nonleague game at John Carroll.
