Comenale Ties School Record With Eight Three-Pointers as Beavers Knock Down 18 Triples to Roll Past Hawks

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Nick Comenale (New York Mills, N.Y.) tied a school record with eight three-pointers and poured in a career-high 30 points as third-ranked Babson College defeated visiting Becker College, 91-57, in non-conference men's basketball action on Tuesday afternoon at Staake Gymnasium.

With the win, Babson is now 5-0 on the year, while Becker slips to 1-3.

Comenale went 11-of-19 from the floor and 8-of-15 from beyond the arc while also pulling down eight rebounds and dishing out five assists. Senior Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) added 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals, and classmate Isaiah Nelsen (North Andover, Mass.) finished with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Fellow senior Sam Bohmiller(Franklin, Mass.) tied for game-high honors with five assists, while classmate David Stauffer(York, Pa.) contributed five rebounds in the win.

Sophomore Kareem Davis (Lowell, Mass.) scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and first-year Antonio White Jr. (Middletown, Conn.) added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Hawks. Junior Samuel Durodola (Rosedale, N.Y.) led all players with 13 rebounds on the day.

Comenale and Flannery combined for 34 first-half points as the Beavers shot 52.9 percent and opened up a 16-point lead at the break. The Beavers led by as many as 10 less than seven minutes into the contest and then closed the stanza with a 19-7 run that included 17 points and five triples from Comenale to push the margin to 46-30 at the half.

Two more three-pointers from Comenale and five points from Flannery highlighted a 14-6 spurt that gave Babson a 60-36 advantage with 13:11 to go in the second half. Comenale buried another trifecta to make it 70-43 at the 10:12 mark, and Nelsen followed with three hoops over the next four possessions to push the lead to 79-51 with 5:34 to play.

The Beavers went 10-of-16 from beyond the arc in the second half and recorded assists on 16 of their 17 field goals over the final 20 minutes.

Babson shot 55.6 percent (35-of-63) overall from the field and 50 percent from deep (18-of-36) while also scoring 18 points off 13 Becker turnovers. The Green and White also finished with a 39-36 edge on the glass.

The Hawks were held to just 34.9 percent (22-of-63) from the floor, but did score 15 second chance points off 12 offensive rebounds.

The Beavers return to action on Sunday when they host Bowdoin at 2 p.m., while Becker visits Nichols on Monday at 7 p.m.

GAME NOTES
•    Babson is 5-1 all-time against Becker with its last three victories prior to Tuesday coming by a total of just eight points.
•    The Beavers, who entered Tuesday's game with assists on 62.3 percent of its baskets this season, recorded a season-high 27 assists on 35 field goals against the Hawks.
•    With 25 points on Tuesday, Flannery now has 1,985 in 92 career games and needs just 15 to become the program's first 2,000-point scorer.
•    Babson's four free throw attempts are the fewest in a game since taking just three in a 52-34 win over Clark on February 20, 2013.
