SEWANEE, Tenn. (Nov. 22, 2016) – For most of the night, the Sewanee men's basketball team and Piedmont struggled on offense. However, in a defensive battle, it was an offensive play, a three by senior Jorden Williams with 2.2 seconds left, that was the difference as the Tigers topped the Lions, 52-51, Tuesday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
The win is the third straight for the Tigers after dropping their season opener. Piedmont fell to 0-3 after playing all three contests on the road. A close game throughout, neither team led by more than seven points and there were five lead changes.
Along with his game winner, Williams led all players with a game-high 25 points. He finished 7-for-15 overall and 4-of-10 beyond the three-point line. He was joined in double figures by senior Brody Stone, who earned his second straight double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
No other Tiger finished in double figures as Sewanee made only 32.1 percent of it attempts. Piedmont was not much better on offense as the Lions hit only 34.5 percent of their shots.
Individually, Chase England and Justin Vallejo led Piedmont with 16 points each. England had a double-double with 11 rebounds while Kelly Assinesi, who enter the game averaging 13.0 ppg, finished with four points and 10 boards.
Sewanee returns to action by hosting another USA South opponent, Covenant, next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
