GETTYSBURG (PA) – Senior guard Tyliek Kimbrough scored 26 points and was named the tournament Most Valuable Player as Delaware Valley University captured the Gettysburg College Tip-Off championship by outlasting Alvernia University in overtime, 75-70.

DelVal, the defending Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom champions, improved to 3-0 under new head coach Mark Seidenburg. The Crusaders, a MAC Commonwealth school that downed the Aggies in last year's season opener, fell to 2-1.

Kimbrough was simply dominant at the tournament as he racked up 53 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in wins over Gettysburg and Alvernia. In the title contest, he hit eight of 17 shots from the field (2-for-3 from 3-point land) and was 8-for-9 from the foul line. Kimbrough added four rebounds, three assists and two blocks in 38 minutes of action.

Junior transfer Manny Brown was selected to the all-tournament team as he notched 44 points over the two games, including 23 in Saturday's championship tilt.

The game featured 12 ties and 10 lead changes, including the first three minutes of overtime where there were six lead changes. The Crusaders took their last lead at 66-65 after Marquis Marshall sank a pair of free throws with 2:23 remaining. Twenty seconds later, Kimbrough got the ball inside to center Tyrea Williams to put DelVal back on top.

After a stop, the Aggies ran the shot clock down until the final second and the game clock down to 1:02 when Kimbrough nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key for a two-possession lead. Marshall drove to the basket for a layup with 13 seconds to go to make it 72-70 and Alvernia fouled Kimbrough three ticks later. Kimbrough, who had just missed the front end of a one-in-one, came through in the clutch with a pair of swishes. Daniel Paulson added one free throw with two seconds left for the 75-70 final.

Both teams shots well from the field in the first half and both hit a trio of 3-pointers as DelVal took a 32-31 lead into the break. The second stanza was tied for the first 10 minutes before the Aggies went on a 10-2 spurt to take a 58-50 advantage with 4:47 remaining. Brown had six of the points while Alex Matsinye had four.

DelVal was held scoreless for more than two minutes as the Crusaders fought back and made it a two-point contest. Brown ended he drought with a jumper with 2:14 to go but George Williams countered with a 3-pointer for Alvernia. Williams then hit a free throw with 1:11 left to tie the game. DelVal had the final possession of regulation, but could not get a shot off. That set the stage for overtime and a championship win for the Aggies.

Williams was strong inside for DelVal as the 6-foot-7 senior had 10 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks while playing all 45 minutes. Matsinye finished with seven points and six boards while Andre' Butler grabbed nine rebounds.

Marshall had 23 points and nine rebounds for the Crusaders. Williams added 19 points.

The Aggies will have its home opener next Saturday, November 26 (1 p.m.) when they welcome Hood College to Doylestown.
