Chimaechi Ekekeugborscored his 1,000th career point and the Bearcats shot 59 percent in the second half to cruise to a convincing 74-48 win over Goucher College in an opening round contest of the Western New York Knee and Orthopedic Surgery Tournament hosted by Medaille College on Friday night in Buffalo, New York.
The Bearcats scored 26 points off 15 turnovers by Goucher and the bench contributed total 29 points to help lead the Bearcats to a 2-0 record on the young season schedule.
They will next play Medaille College (defeated Utica 73-63) in the tournament championship scheduled for tomorrow at 3 p.m. (live stats & video available).
With the exception on trailing early (6-5), the Bearcats had control the entire game and scored the first 10 points of the second half en route to advancing to the championship.
Ekekeugbor started by tallying the first eight points and became the 22nd player in team history to score 1,000 career points when he scored the first basket of the second half. He finished with 19 points (8-11 fg) and seven rebounds.
Chimaechi Ekekeugborscored 12 points and Allen Villarhad 11 off the bench for the win.
Chris Outing led Goucher College from the Landmark Conference with 13 points.
