Hornet Men Roll to 94-64 Semifinal Win over Emory & Henry

SALEM, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team scored an impressive 94-64 win Saturday evening over Emory & Henry College to advance to the finals of the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament. The top-seeded Hornets, looking for their first conference title since 1979, will play the winner of #2 Virginia Wesleyan College/#6 Randolph College Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center.

Lynchburg came out of the gate quickly, turning a 6-5 lead into a 23-6 advantage with a 17-1 run behind two three pointers from sophomore Bobby Ford and seven points from senior Austen Arnold. LC didn't take its foot off the gas pedal, extending the cushion to 28 points with six minutes left in the first half (43-15) and went into intermission ahead 49-27. Arnold scored 14 points in the game's first 20 minutes.

Any E&H thoughts of a comeback were erased early in the second half with a 14-4 LC surge, fueled by seven points from senior Lyndon White, to push the lead to 63-31.

Lynchburg shot 53 percent from the field (38-72) and 52 percent from three-point range (12-23) on the night. Ford drilled 6-of-9 from beyond the arc and finished with a game-high 18 points. Arnold collected 16 points and eight rebounds, while White tallied 11 points, six rebounds and four assists, hitting all five of his shots from the field. He was also 5-of-5 in LC's 23-point quarterfinal win Friday afternoon against Hampden-Sydney College.

Junior Zack Burnett had 12 points, five assists and four steals and senior post-man Alex Gravesfinished with 10 points and five blocks. A total of 12 Hornets got in the scoring column.

Myles Turner led the Wasps (16-12) with 14 points and nine rebounds. John Shelor also had 14 points. The LC defense harassed E&H into just 29 percent shooting from the floor (22-77).

The Hornets have peaked at the right time, winning nine of their last 10 games and five in a row. The team is just one win shy of the program record for most wins in a season.
