NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Baruch College men's basketball team was defeated by Brooklyn College 76-67 in the championship game of the 2016 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) men's basketball championship played at CCNY's Nat Holman Gymnasium.

The Bearcats, 16-13 overall, were led by Doyin Isaac with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Chimaechi Ekekeugbor added 17 points and eight boards. Edward Roscigno had 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Raymond De La Cruz added 10 points.

After a close game in the first half that saw the score tied at 27 at halftime, Brooklyn College used a 14-0 run midway through the second half that broke the game open. With Baruch trailing by only a point at 34-33 with 14:28 to go, Brooklyn scored 14-0 unanswered over a five and a half minute span to go ahead 48-33 with 8:51 to play.

Brooklyn then extended its lead later in the stanza and led by as much as 20 and the Bulldogs were ahead 57-37 with 5:07 to play to complete a 23-4 run.

The defending champion Bearcats did not go down without a fight though, and Baruch cut its deficit to nine with 1:25 to go and the Bearcats were down 69-60.

But Baruch got no closer as Brooklyn's lead proved to be enough in a waning moments.

Brooklyn, now 21-7, has earned the automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III men's basketball championship. The Bulldogs will find out on selection Monday who they will play and where.

Baruch will now await to see on Monday afternoon if it will receive a bid into the ECAC Metro Region postseason championship.

Lorenzo Williams led Brooklyn with a game-high 25 points.
