NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a narrow defeat by Purchase College, 77-75, at the Max Stern Athletic Center on Saturday evening. However, history was made for the Maccabees as senior forward Shelby Rosenberg netted his 1,000th career point on his senior night.

Rosenberg becomes just the 28th player in program history to join the 1,000-point club. He accomplished this feat with just 11 seconds remaining in the contest, as he drew a foul while attempting to shoot a three-point field goal. As a result, he was awarded three free throws. After nailing the first two, Rosenberg converted the third to earn his 1,000th point in his last regular season home game in his collegiate career.

With Purchase (13-12, 11-9)  earning the win over Yeshiva (14-11, 12-8), it sets up the #4 Maccabees to host the #5 Panthers in a rematch, this time in the first round of the Skyline Conference Championships, on Tuesday evening beginning at 8:00 p.m. It will be Yeshiva's first home playoff game since the 1999-00 season.

As for the regular season finale, Purchase had control of the game most of the way. Towards the end of the first half, Yeshiva was able to take a two-point lead, thanks to a layup by Rosenberg, to make the score 31-29. After Purchase tied it up, freshman forward Michael Hayon converted a layup of his own to put Yeshiva back up by two, with 1:28 remaining in the opening half.

Purchase scored the last six points of the first stanza to take the lead, 37-33, and never looked back. Yeshiva trailed by as many as 10 in the second half. The Maccabees made a run in the final minute of play, scoring the last five points of the contest, sparked by Rosenberg's history-making free throws. However, it was not enough as Purchase hung on for the win, 77-75.

For the game, Rosenberg and senior guard Shaje Weiss each scored 18 points, with the former grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out five assists. Junior forward Michael Berg produced 10 points, while classmate Jordan Hod scored nine, and junior forward Dean Pienica added eight.

It was senior night as Yeshiva University honored its five graduating seniors, Rosenberg, Weiss,Joseph AmmarYosef Rosenthal, and Eytan Potash with a ceremony prior to the start of the contest.
