OLIVET, Mich.-- Hot shooting led the Trine men's basketball team to an 83-68 victory over Olivet in MIAA-action Wednesday night at Cutler Event Center.

The Thunder shot 56 percent (32-of-57) from the field to earn the victory. Jared Holmquist (Reed City, Mich./Reed City) scored a game-high 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting to pace the offensive effort. The MIAAs leading scorer poured in 21 of those points on a perfect 8-of-8 effort from the field in the second half. Lee Gardner notched a double-double, scoring 24 points to go along with 12 rebounds to lead the Comets.

Trine's win gives the Thunder a 16-8 overall record, 6-7 in the MIAA. A win Saturday would guarantee Trine the No. 4 seed in the MIAA Tournament. Trine has a one-game lead on both Calvin and Adrian entering the final day of the conference season.

A trio of freshman played a huge role in the victory for the Thunder. Kyle Dodson (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) hit an efficient 7-of-10 from the field on his way to 17 points. He added six rebounds and four assists.

Freshman Jordan Kreglow (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg) scored a career-high 13 points off the bench and hit 4-of-7 from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. Kreglow is averaging eight points over his last four games. Fellow freshman Austin Woolett (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) also set a new career-high with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting. Woolett and Kreglow led the Thunder bench to outscoring its Olivet counterparts by a 26-14 margin.

Back-to-back threes by Kreglow and a layup by Dodson helped push the lead above 10 for the first time at 57-47 midway through the second half. The Thunder would push its lead as high as 18 points.

Kreglow scored 11 points in the second half, while Dodson added seven. Trine got 38 points on 15-of-21 shooting from the trio of Kreglow, Dodson and Woolett in the contest.

Trine wraps up the regular-season this Saturday, Feb. 27 against Albion. The contest is part of Hoopla Community Day, which will also see the Thunder honor its senior class. For more information on Community Day, CLICK HERE.
