The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team improved to 17-5 overall and 11-2 in the Empire 8 Conference, as the Cardinals earned a 75-68 win over visiting Elmira College.

Four players finished in double figures for the Cardinals, including junior Keegan Ryan, who tallied his 28th career double-double.

With the loss, Elmira falls to 4-19, 2-12.

The Soaring Eagles came ready to play, jumping out to an 8-0 in the game's first 90 seconds.  Elmira led 13-6 with 12:43 left in the opening half, before Fisher took its first lead of the day, thanks to a 10-0 run.

The two teams would trade leads eight different times over the next six minutes before Tyler English gave Fisher the lead for good at 32-31 with three minutes left in the first half.

Fisher led 36-32 at the half and held a 41-39 advantage with 16:24 left, but took control over the next two minutes, thanks to a 10-0 run with Alex Sausville and English each scoring five points during the spurt.

The Soaring Eagles, didn't go away. Although Fisher led 61-51 with just over nine minutes left, Elmira went on to make it a one possession game at 64-62 with just over five minutes remaining. Elmira was hot from long-range all day, knocking down 13-of-28 (46.4%) shots from 3-point range.

Fisher, however, would answer. English would hit free throws on the ensuing possession and Tyler Hart hit his lone 3-pointer of the day with just under three minutes left to put the Cardinals up 69-62. 

Fisher would seal the game at the foul line and shot 17-of-22 from the charity stripe for the game.

As a team, Fisher shot 53.1% from the floor and committed a season-low four turnovers.

Ryan led the Cardinals with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while English finished with 16 points, six boards and five assists. Hart totaled 14 points and a team-high six assists, while Zach Ottaway scored eight of his 10 points in the first half.

Fisher returns to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday and will host Houghton College. Prior to the start of the game, the College will pay tribute to former Fisher coach and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Bobby Wanzer, who passed away last month.
