GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Junior Cedric Elleby scored 20 of his game-high 28 points in the second half to help lift Gwynedd Mercy over visiting Rosemont, 98-80, Saturday afternoon. Both teams were part of a special fundraiser, #PlayForJalenAndJP, the children of Griffin Head Coach John Baron. Jaylen and JP's mother is courageously battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer and with each game around the CSAC today, there was a $2 admission charge, in which 100% of the proceeds will go to Jaylen and JP.

The teams wore special purple t-shirts during warmups to mark the special occasion.

Gwynedd rallied from a nine-point first half deficit and go on to shoot 61% in the second to lock up a playoff berth. Elleby, who also pulled down 14 rebounds, was one of four Griffins in double figures. Arron Goodman poured in 15 while Julian Hyden added 13, and Rip Engel scored 10. The team had success in the low post, as 60 of their 98 points were scored in the paint.

GMercyU would race out to a 9-1 lead early in the first, but the Rosemont answered with back-to-back three-pointers from Thomas and Roberts. The two longballs started a 19-2 run as the Griffins had just one field goal over an eight minute span. Lafferty's layup gave the Ravens a nine-point edge (20-11), their largest fo the game, at the 9:47 mark. Gwynedd chipped away at the deficit and with just over a minute left in the stanza, made their move to take the lead. Trailing by two, freshman Courtney Cubbage would score off a steal to tie it. He would then steal in the inbound and lay it up for two to give the Griffins their first lead since early in the half.

The Griffins took a 39-37 lead into the lockerroom after Goodman posted one of his three blocks on a shot attempt at the buzzer. Both teams would shoot over 40% in the first 20 minutes.

Elleby's putback off a miss capped a 10-0 run, giving the Griffins a 62-49 lead with 13:02 remaining and a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
