Ringgold Sparks Albright Past Arcadia

READING, Pa. – Junior Omari Ringgold scored 23 points leading four players in double figures as Albright defeated Arcadia 72-66 in a MAC Commonwealth game on Wednesday in the Bollman Center.

Evan Ward had 17 points, while DeJuan Smith scored 13 points and collected a career-high 16 rebounds.

Senior Vince Lombardi sparked a second-half run as he scored all of his career-high 11 points after the intermission.

The Lions, who improved to 8-13 overall and 5-7 in conference play, relied on their second-best shooting performance of the season to notch their second straight victory. Albright shot 56.8 percent from the floor for the game, which included shooting 65.0 percent in the first half.

Albright held a 46-40 lead following a basket by Alex Cohen with 13:37 to play in the game before Lombardi took over.

He jump started a 13-4 run by scoring back-to-back layups and then drilling a three-pointer to give the Lions a 53-40 lead with 11:04 left to play in the second half.

John Landro hit a jumper to trim the lead to 53-42, but Smith answered with a three-pointer to extend the margin to 56-42 with 9:55 to play in the game.

Evan Slone answered with a layup that brought Arcadia within 56-44, but Ringgold capped the run with a three-pointer that gave Albright its largest lead of the game at 59-44 with 9:00 remaining in the second half.

Arcadia used a 7-0 run to climb within 65-61 with 1:10 left in the game, but the Lions made 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to hold off the Knights.

Arcadia, which was led by Ryan Kelley who scored 17 points, dropped to 13-7 overall and 6-5 in conference play. Josh Scott scored 13 points and Landro finished with 12 points for the Knights.

Albright came out quickly and built an early 11-point lead in the first half.

Ringgold scored 10 points in the first 6:14 of the game to help the Lions take a 17-6 lead with 13:46 to play in the opening half.

Arcadia responded with a 10-0 run that brought the Knights to within 17-16 with 8:50 to play in the first half.

Smith hit a jumper to push the Albright lead to 19-16, but Scott tied the game at 19-19 with a three-pointer with 7:28 to play in the first.

Calvert Gantz made 1-of-2 free throws to put Albright back in front, but the Knights took the lead when Kelley scored on a layup with 7:07 to play before halftime.

A jumper from Ward and a layup by Gant put Albright ahead 24-21, but the Knights went back in front with layups from Kelley and Landro.

A Kelley layup gave the Knights their final lead of the game at 31-30 with 2:08 to play in the first half, but a free throw by Jaylin Calloway and a layup by Ringgold gave Albright a 33-31 lead at the break.

Albright returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 6) when it hosts Messiah at 4 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
