BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Trailing by five with under 10 minutes to play, Gordon College went on a 23-4 run over a span of 5:37 to upend the University of New England, 76-67, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball match Tuesday evening (Feb. 2) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

With the result, the Fighting Scots pulled even at 10-10 overall and move to 7-6 in league play. The Nor'easters fall back to 10-10 on the year, 5-8 in the CCC.

For Gordon, Sam Johnson and Garrisson Duvivier combined for 18 points in the 2nd-half, finishing with 15 and 11, respectively. The pair was also responsible to 22 rebounds (Duvivier 13, Johnson 9), helping their squad to a 52-28 advantage on the glass. Eric Demers (11 points), Jake Haar (11 points), and Noah Szilagyi (9 points) each hit three from long distance in support.

GC converted 18 offensive boards into 23 second-chance points to overcome twice as many turnovers (18) as UNE. The Fighting Scots made 14-of-25 field goal tries (56 percent) following halftime, after shooting just 32 percent in the opening frame.

The Nor'easters got 14 points from CJ Autry, 11 of which came in the 1st period. Devin Thompson and Gavin Dibble added 10 apiece, and Tom Nason went for eight. Drew Coveney recorded all of his eight points at the charity stripe while dishing out eight assists, grabbing six rebounds, and picking four steals.

Both sides led by as many as five during the initial stanza, and UNE held a 31-29 edge at the break. The hosts got a trey from Autry early in the closing session and bumped the cushion to seven before six unanswered from Johnson spurred a 9-1 run to slip Gordon in front (38-37) momentarily.

Big Blue recovered and gained a five-point padding on three consecutive plays, only to have a three-point play by Duvivier on the ensuing possession start the Fighting Scots' deciding stretch. Six different players scored in the spurt that concluded with 3:45 left and Gordon ahead by 14 (68-54).

UNE managed to get six back (68-60) by the 2:02 mark but could not fully overcome the deficit, in spite of GC going just 6-of-13 at the line in the remaining time.

The Nor'easters will look to end their three-game skid on Saturday (3 p.m.) at Curry College (0-13 CCC).
