NEW YORK, N.Y. – Senior guard Matthew Lee (Bloomfield, N.J.) had a career night by scoring 50 points as the Medgar Evers men's basketball team used their high-powered offense in a 98-83 victory over Baruch College in CUNYAC play Saturday night at the ARC Arena.

Lee shot 17-of-22 from the field for the Cougars (8-12, 5-6 CUNYAC), including 5-of-6 from three-point range and tallied 11 out of 12 from the charity stripe to snap the team's four game losing streak. The CUNYAC and NCAA Division III-leading scorer also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists. The 50-point total tops his previous high of 44 points earlier in the season, and is the ninth time he has scored 30 points or more.

The team also got big contributions from Zavier Coston (Brooklyn, N.Y), who posted a double-double with 12 points and 15 boards along with a team-high five assists. Maurice Swaby II (Brooklyn, N.Y) added 14 points, while Andron Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) corralled nine rebounds.

Chimaechi Ekekeugbor led the way for the Bearcats (11-9, 7-4 CUNYAC), with team-highs 18 points and six rebounds in a losing effort. Both Raymond De La Cruz and Doyin Issac scored 13 points, while Ryan Markoe and Jack Shanahan each scored in double figures with 10 apiece.

The Cougars led the game wire-to-wire, thanks to their outstanding shooting performance. They shot a blistering 55.6% from the field, including shooting at an even 60% clip to push them ahead for good. Medgar Evers dominated the rebounding game, earning a 52-20 edge on the boards, and scored 24 second-chance points off those extra efforts. They also used their inside game to outscore Baruch 40-20 in the paint.

Following this game, the Cougars will look to build momentum in the month of February when they go on the road when they face Hunter College in a doubleheader with the women's team. Tip time is set for 7:00 p.m.
