BOSTON -- Wentworth Institute of Technology limited the University of New England to 25.5 percent shooting on the way to a 70-44 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball win on Wednesday evening (Jan. 27) at Tansey Gymnasium.
Kyle Romich and Dan DeVaux were the only players in double figures to lead the Leopards (10-8, 8-3 CCC), tallying 18 and 14 points, respectively. Matthew Dean added eight points for the hosts, who scored 24 points off 18 UNE turnovers. Sam Knollmeyer corralled a game-high 10 rebounds.
Drew Patno notched eight points and six rebounds for the Nor'easters (10-8, 5-6 CCC). Ryan Matthews chipped in with seven points.
Romich drained 16 of his points in the 1st period, as WIT closed the last 6:45 before halftime with a 15-2 run to go up by 18 (32-14).
Five different players scored for the Leopards in a 13-0 spurt to begin the 2nd frame, and the advantage peaked at 37 during the latter stages of the match.
UNE will look to bounce back on Saturday (3 p.m.) with a home contest against Nichols College (9-2 CCC).
