Men's Basketball Falls 88-59 to Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team was outscored 50-27 in the second half to fall 88-59 to Randolph-Macon College in a big Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup for both teams.

The Marlins led by as many as five points in the first half as Kaelin Poe scored on a layup from Tim Jones with just under five minutes into the contest to put VWC up 14-9.

Randolph-Macon answered with an 8-2 run in which Jamie Wilson scored four points to take a 17-16 lead with 13:02 left to play. The Marlins tied it up at 17 and 19, but the Yellow Jackets led the remainder of the game.

Virginia Wesleyan trailed 38-32 at the half after a Corey White, Jr. layup and big defensive stop took a little momentum into the Marlin locker room.

The Yellow Jackets came out of the break on a 9-0 run, holding the Marlins scoreless until the 15:27 mark to race out to a 47-32 lead. Three different Macon players scored in the spurt, led by Michael Taylor's six points.

The Marlins would get no closer than 13 points the rest of the way as the hosts continued to pull away behind a 58.9% shooting effort and a 44.4% mark from three-point range.

Taylor led Randolph-Macon (9-8/5-3) with 24 points while Daniel Noe chipped in 19 points and 12 rebounds. Montese Adams tallied 12 points and eight boards off the bench.

Poe led the Marlins with 13 points while Joes contributed 10 points, four rebounds and four assists. Randolph-Macon held the Marlins to just 15.4% shooting from long range as Virginia Wesleyan connected on two trifectas.

Virginia Wesleyan (12-6/7-2) travels to Roanoke College (15-2/7-1) for an ODAC rematch Saturday at 2 p.m. The Maroons won the season's first matchup in Virginia Beach.
