Yellowjackets 89, Martin Luther 72

The Yellowjacket men's basketball team has been having some tough sledding as of late. After winning six of seven games, the Yellowjackets were riding a four game losing streak coming into Friday's matchup against UMAC foe Martin Luther.

By the time the final buzzer sounded, the losing streak was a distant memory as the Yellowjackets defeated the Knights 89-72.

The Yellowjackets opened up the game on a 9-0 run capped by a Zach Schradle layup, as the Yellowjackets looked to put this game away early. A Martin Luther 3-pointer with 18:09 left in the quarter broke the Yellowjackets run. Undeterred, the Yellowjackets went on another 9-0 run over the next two minutes as they saw their lead balloon to 18-3. The Yellowjackets managed to hold on to a double-figure lead for much of the half, as they went into the first break leading 38-22.

The second half saw the Knights come out firing, as they managed to cut the Yellowjacket lead to 49-42 with 13:52 remaining in the half. The Yellowjackets fought back to push their lead back up to double figures, as they held Martin Luther at arm's length the rest of the way en route to an 89-72 victory.

As he has done all season, Schradle paced the Yellowjackets in this game, finishing with 27 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, one block, and one steal to complete his eight double-double of the season.

Brian Lindblom finished with 20 points and six rebounds, while Vid Milenkovic added 12 and Nate Kalien chipped in 11.

Martin Luther was led by Todd Brassow, who finished with a game high 30 points. T.J. Babinec added 22 points, while Michael Paulsen chipped in 11.

The Yellowjackets shot 50% from the field, going 9-23 from beyond the 3-point arc, while hitting 10-14 from the free throw line.

Martin Luther shot 40.6% from the field, going 10-24 from beyond the 3-point arc, while hitting 10-11 from the free throw line.

The Yellowjackets finished with four turnovers. Martin Luther finished with nine.

Next up for the Yellowjackets (8-9, 5-4 UMAC) is a matchup against Bethany Lutheran Saturday, January 23 in the UMAC Game of the Week. Game time from Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium is set for 3:00 p.m.
