#5 Benedictine Survives Test from Preseason Favorites

LISLE, Ill. - The fifth-ranked Benedictine University men's basketball team trailed at halftime for just the second time this season, but rallied to survive a test from Concordia University Wisconsin at home and set a school record for consecutive wins in a season.

Concordia Wisconsin scored the first six points of the game, prompting a timeout in the first minute of the game and a line change of players shortly after when the visitors led 10-2
Benedictine chipped the lead down to four points before the visitors jumped ahead 29-18 just past the mid-point of the first half
Luke Johnson finished a 9-0 run with a dunk at the 5:45 mark, pulling Benedictine within 29-27
Concordia Wisconsin responded with five consecutive points and once again led by double figures at 43-33 with less than two minutes to play in the half

Concordia Wisconsin, who has dropped four conference games by a combined total of six points, finished the game just 1-for-9 from the field as Benedictine pulled away
Benedictine is now one of only four unbeaten teams remaining in the nation
The win broke a tie with the 1965-66 team for longest single season win streak in school history. The 1965-66 team lost at Lewis to break the streak but went on to reach the NCAA Tournament and post one of the best records in school history
The record for consecutive wins is 17, set over the 1964-66 seasons

"We have to find a way to get off to better starts," head coach Keith Bunkenburg said. "We had turnovers on four of our first five possessions. I'm not sure we deserved to win today but our team found a way and I am proud of them for collecting a great win."

Four players reached double figures for Benedictine led by Johnson, who neared a triple double with 17 points, 16 boards, and eight blocks
The double-double marked the seventh of the season and second straight for Johnson
Blaszczyk contributed 14 with Brayden Olson and Reynolds each notching 10
The 10 points for Olson marked a career high
Benedictine shot just 47.4 percent for the game, the third lowest showing of the season for a team who ranked second in the nation entering the contest
Benedictine held a 49-38 edge on the glass but turned the ball over 17 times with 12 in the first half
Concordia Wisconsin, the preseason favorite to win the conference, scored 17 points off turnovers and held a 37-36 edge in points in the paint
