Second half slump proves costly to men's basketball

ONEONTA, NY—The Alfred University men's basketball team fell to Hartwick College 80-62 on the road Friday evening.
 
The Saxons were led by junior Julian Reinhart (Hornell, NY/Hornell) with 13 points and four boards. Junior Eric Adams (Lebanon, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and sophomore Dalton Cousin (Sherrill, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) chimed in with six rebounds each in the contest.
 
Despite shooting 48.48% from the field the Saxons were outpaced in the first half by Hartwick shooting 51.52% from the field.  AU trailed 41-36 heading into the intermission.
 
Within striking distance heading into the second period, the Saxons hit a cold streak and shot 11-of-41 (26.8%) compared to the Hawks who shot 40.7% overall in the second half.  The final buzzer sounded with the Saxons trailing 80-62.
 
Junior Tyler Seelman (Lorton, Va/Hayfield Secondary) and freshman Pat McLamore (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) dished out four assists each in the contest.
 
All five of Hartwick's starters scored double-digit points, being led by Trevor Norton with 19 points.
 
AU (6-8, E8 2-3) turns around tomorrow to take on Empire 8 rival Stevens Tech at 2PM.
