Marrow's Late Free-Throws Seal Victory at St. Joseph's-LI

Patchogue, N.Y. - Tied 65-65 with three seconds remaining in regulation, Farmingdale State sophomore guard Jarred Marrow (Amityville, N.Y.) was fouled and converted both free-throws leading the Rams to a 67-65 conference victory at St. Joseph's-LI on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Farmingdale State men's basketball team improved to 6-8 overall and 6-3 in Skyline Conference play.

The Rams led 52-49 with 10:09 left to play and used a pair of Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) free-throws and a tip in by Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) to go ahead by seven, 56-49.

After the Golden Eagles (5-9, 4-5) again closed within three points at 57-54, FSC junior forward Weldon Irvine (Queens, N.Y.) hit a layup and free-throw to increase the advantage to 60-54 with 6:08 remaining. Junior guard Andy Laurent (Amityville, N.Y.) responded with a layup and jump shot on St. Joe's next two possessions to pull the Golden Eagles within two, 60-58.

St. Joe's took their first lead of the second half at 61-60, before a pair of free-throws by both Irvine and Marrow gave Farmingdale State a 64-61 edge with 1:28 left on the clock.

After a Dominique Spann (North Babylon, N.Y.) layup cut the Golden Eagles deficit to one, FSC sophomore guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) connected on 1-of-2 at the line to give the Rams a 65-63 lead with 22 seconds remaining.

With nine seconds left to play, Laurent tied the game at 65-65 by making both free-throw attempts and six seconds later Marrow converted the game-winning free-throws for Farmingdale State as the Rams earned the 67-65 road victory.

Farmingdale State shot 78% (14-for-18) at the free-throw line in the second half.

Irvine recorded a double-double with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Marrow finished with 12 points, including 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and three steals. Senior guard Eddie Kinloch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a team-high 13 points and freshman forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) had 11 points and six boards in the win.

The Golden Eagles were led by Laurent's game-high 18 points.

Farmingdale State next will play host to Maritime in a Skyline Conference game on Thursday, January 14th at 7:00 p.m.
