Freshman forward Danny Sotos was one of five Lake Forest College players to score in double figures as the Forester men's basketball team defeated visiting Monmouth College 82-63 on Saturday.

Sotos and junior guard Andrew Toth combined to shoot 11-for-11 from the free throw line and finished with 13 and 12 points, respecitvely. Sophomore guard Eric Porter led the home team with 18, junior forward Jim Schick scored 17, and freshman guard Jordan Moran added 10. The point totals for Toth and Moran were season-highs.

The Foresters actually made three fewer field goals than the Fighting Scots, despite out-shooting them 45.1 percent to 34.2. Monmouth out-rebounded the home team 46-39 but Lake Forest, which entered the game shooting less than 60 percent from the free throw line on the season, connected on 33 of 38 (86.8%) foul shots.

Lake Forest did not score for the game's first five-and-a-half minutes but allowed just five points during that span. The Foresters quickly came back and took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Sotos with 8:32 to play in the first half. The margin grew to 10 points (33-23) at halftime.

Monmouth got no closer than eight points in the second half and the Foresters led by as many as 16 before having their lead trimmed to 10 with three minutes left. Lake Forest did not make another field goal in the game but knocked down 14 of 16 free throws down the stretch to close out the victory.

The Foresters improved to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in Midwest Conference play this season while Monmouth fell to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the league.

Lake Forest will travel to Beloit College on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. match-up with the Buccaneers.
