Foresters Pull Away from Illinois Tech in Second Half

Behind junior forward Jim Schick's fourth double-double in as many games and a 56-point second half, the Lake Forest College men's basketball team defeated visiting Illinois Institute of Technology 92-68 on Saturday.

Schick finished with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds and added a season-high four rebounds. He was extremely efficient at the offensive end of the court, shooting 7-for-8 from the field, 3-for-4 from three-point range, and 4-for-4 from the foul line. Schick is averaging 20.8 points and 13.3 rebounds per game with a .660 field goal percentage on the year.

Four other Foresters reached double figures in points, led by sophomore forward Orlando Brown with 16. Freshman forward Dany Sotos finished with 13 while junior guard Andrew Toth and sophomore guard Danny Nikitas added 10 apiece. Nikitas also had a game-high five assists.

Lake Forest shot 48 percent and Illinois Tech 43.3 percent from the field. The Foresters also knocked down nine of 23 three-pointers and 11 of 13 attempts from the free throw line. The home team controlled the boards, out-rebounding the Scarlet Hawks 47-30.

Both teams had leads as large as five points in the opening period, which ended with the Foresters ahead 36-33.

Illinois Tech pulled back to within a basket twice early in the second half but a 12-4 run extended the margin to double figures for the first time in the game. After a Scarlet Hawk three-pointer, Nikitas connected on a long-range shot of his own, starting a 24-6 Lake Forest run that put the game out of reach. The lead dipped below 20 points just once the rest of the way.

Lake Forest improved to 3-1 this season while Illinois Tech fell to 0-5.

The Foresters will put their 1-0 Midwest Conference record on the line on Wednesday at Carroll University. The contest will begin at 5:30 p.m.
