WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College pushed its winning streak to nine in a row after closing out a 3-0 week with an 88-58 victory over University of Maine at Farmington in non-conference men's basketball Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
The Mules are 9-1 overall heading into Tuesday's 6 p.m. road game at Pine Manor. Colby opens NESCAC play Friday at 7 p.m. at Bates.
Colby's Ryan Jann closed out a big week with a game-high 21 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field and 3-for-4 from 3-point range. Tony Karalekas had his best collegiate game with 4-for-4 shooting from 3-point range and a 4-for-4 effort from the foul line for 16 points.
Sam Willson finished with 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting, Luke Westman scored eight points, and Steven Daley had six points. Patrick Stewart added five points, a team-high six rebounds, and dished three assists. Pat Dickert had a team-high four assists for the Mules.
Sean Murphy was 4-for-6 from 3-point range for 12 points to lead the Beavers (0-9). Ryan Rice added 11 points and six rebounds, while Nick Hilton had 10 points and six boards. Ryan Camire had seven points for UMF.
The Mules broke a 3-3 tie with a 20-0 run to take a big early lead in the first eight minutes of the contest. Colby steadily built the lead and had its largest margin at 53-20 to end the half. Colby led by as much as 49 points (76-27) in the second half.
The Mules shot 59.4 percent (19-for-32) in the first half and closed at 50 percent (29-for-58) for the game. Colby also shot 43.5 percent (10-for-23) from 3-point range and 20-for-24 (83.3) from the foul line.
