Beavers Open the New Year with a Loss at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team (0-9) opened the 2016 calendar year with a 88-58 non-conference loss at Colby College (9-1) on Saturday afternoon.

Sean Murphy (Westbrook, Maine/Westbrook) had a strong game with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Ryan Rice added 11 points and six rebounds, while Nick Hilton (Wilton, Maine/Mt. Blue) had 10 points and six boards. Ryan Camire (Acton, Maine/Sanford) contributed seven points for UMF.

Colby's Ryan Jann closed out a big week with a game-high 21 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field and 3-for-4 from 3-point range. Tony Karalekas set a career-high with 16 points on 4-of-4 shooting from 3-point range and a 4-of-4 effort from the foul line for 16 points.

The two squads were equally matched in points in the paint, but the Mules moved the ball efficiently and assisted 20 of the team's 29 field goals.

UMaine-Farmington hosts rival Thomas College on Friday night.
