DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Hood College held St. Scholastica to just two points in the first 10 minutes of play and went on to win 53-39 in the Land of Magic Classic.

It was the fewest points allowed by the Blazers since their last trip to the Land of Magic Tournament, when they held Eastern to 38 points in December 2009.

Daniel Wegener (Falling Waters, W.Va. / Broadfording Christian (Md.)) led Hood in scoring for the second straight night with 12 points, on 5-of-8 shooting, and nine rebounds. Malik Harris (Columbia, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) came off the bench for a season-high 10 points. Jared Ruiz (Frederick, Md. / Oakdale) had three assists and three steals. Tanner Ruths (Stephens City, Va. / Sherando) added three steals and two blocks.

Hood opened the game with a 21-2 run as the Saints missed their first nine shots and turned the ball over six times in the opening 10 minutes of play. The Blazers eventually stretched the lead to 30-8 on a bucket by Wegener with 5:06 on the clock, but St. Scholastica closed the half with an 11-3 run to cut the deficit to 33-19 at the break.

In the second half, Hood led by as many as 17, keeping the Saints from pulling closer than 10 points.

The Blazers limited St. Scholastica to just 24 percent shooting in the contest (13-of-55). The Saints went just 4-of-31 from 3-point range (13 percent). Hood held a 32-18 advantage on points in the paint.

Andrew Laughlin was the only player to reach double figures for St. Scholastica with 10 points. Jake Naslund grabbed eight boards.

Hood returns to Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action on January 2 at Arcadia.
