UMHB men fall to Alma College

San Antonio, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team had no answer for Alma College's red-hot first half shooting and the Cru fell to the Scots 113-97 Saturday afternoon in San Antonio. UMHB drops to 3-3 on the season with the loss. Alma raises its record to 5-3 on the year with the victory.

 

The Scots scored the game's first six points before UMHB clawed back to within 19-15 with 13:20 left in the first half. Alma responded with a 13-2 run to take the lead out to 15 points and the Scots led by 29 points at halftime with a 64-35 edge. The lead would grow to as many as 38 points in the second half before the Cru rallied late to cut it to the final margin.

 

Shon Lewis led UMHB with 18 points off the bench and he hit 5-9 from three-point range. Daniel Mills added 16 points and Demarius Cress and Russell Green chipped in 14 points apiece. Justin Gammill scored 12 points off the bench and Sidney Deloach posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Cru shot just 29 per cent from the field in the first half and finished at 41 per cent for the game. UMHB was 12-29 from three-point range and turned the ball over just 11 times.

 

Jason Beckman topped Alma with 25 points on 10-13 shooting. D.J. Beckman and Kevin Gamble had 17 points apiece and two other players also reached double figures for the Scots. Alma shot 63 per cent from the field in the first half and hit 53 per cent for the game. The Scots went 19-39 from beyond the arc and out rebounded the Cru 45-36 in the contest.

 

The Cru will now take a break for the Christmas holiday before returning to action on December 27th. UMHB will travel to Las Vegas to play three games in four days at the D3hoops.com Classic. The Cru will open play with a 10:00 PM Central Time tip off against St. Vincent on December 29th.
