Unbeaten Roos Continue to Lead NCAA D-III in Scoring Defense & Field Goal Percentage Defense

Indianapolis, IN – For the second consecutive week the SUNY Canton men's basketball team continues to lead NCAA Division III in both scoring defense and field goal percentage defense, while they are just one of 16 teams nationally in D-III to remain unbeaten at 8-0.

The Roos are allowing just 56.5 points per game which ranks first nationally, slightly ahead of Christopher Newport University (57.0) and Oswego State (57.4). Meanwhile, SUNY Canton is allowing opponents to shoot just 32.6 percent from the field, which is also first out of 413 teams. Trinity College (34.4) and WPI (35.2) rank second and third, respectively.

SUNY Canton is also in the top 25 in a number of categories including blocked shots per game (6th – 6.4), total blocks (6th – 51), defensive rebounds per game (6th – 33.13), scoring margin (9th – 17.6), three-point field goal percentage defense (10th – 24.4), steals per game (16th – 10.8), total rebounds per game (25th – 44.50) and total steals (25th – 86).

The men's basketball team has finished the first semester unbeaten at 8-0 and will put its perfect record on the line at the end of December in the College of Staten Island Tournament of Heroes. The Roos open play on December 29th at 5:30 p.m. against Connecticut College.
