More news about: Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's Davon Hill (Clinton, Md. / Potomac School) scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Blazers past Lebanon Valley in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action, 81-71.

Hill, Hood's lone senior in a starting line up with four freshmen, knocked down 9-of-19 field goals and all eight of his free throw attempts on the way to the victory.

With the win, Hood improved to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the MAC Commonwealth.

Three other Blazers scored in double figures. Daniel Wegener (Falling Waters, W.Va. / Broadfording Christian (W.Va.)) had his second double-double of the year, going up against the Dutchmen's Andy Orr. Wegener had 14 points and 12 rebounds - including 10 on the offensive glass.

Ian Eversull (Ijamsville, Md. / Urbana) sank 5-of-9 field goals on his way to 12 points and Jared Ruiz (Frederick, Md. / Oakdale) used a 2-of-4 day behind the arc to reach 10 points.

Behind Wegener's dozen rebounds, Hood held a 45-26 edge on the glass. The Blazers turned 24 offensive rebounds into 28 second chance points.

A 3-pointer by Sam Light with five minutes left in the first half gave the Dutchmen a 26-25 lead. Hood responded immediately on its next possession. Eversull scored inside and was fouled. The free throw put the Blazers back in front and started a 9-0 run. A layup by Hill with 2:56 on the clock put Hood ahead 34-26.

The Blazers led 38-32 at the half, but Lebanon Valley cut the advantage to 43-41 on a 3-pointer by Orr with 16:35 to play in the game. After scores by Hood's big men, Wegener and Luke Casey (Nanticoke, Pa. / Crestwood), a Michael Robinson (Upper Marlboro, Md. / Pallotti) 3-point field goal stretched the lead to back to 50-41 with 13:23 left.

The Dutchmen would chip away again and trailed by just three points, 59-56 with 8:41 left, but Hill sank a three to start a 16-4 run. Hill had nine points during the run, which gave the Blazers a 75-60 edge with under three minutes to play.

Orr scored 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting for the Dutchmen and blocked four shots. Light added 13 points.

Lebanon Valley went 11-of-27 beyond the arc to try to keep pace, but Hood's rebounding supremacy was too much to overcome.

The Blazers are idle for finals week before hosting the Rotary of Frederick Holiday Classic on December 19-20.
